Highly skilled migration is the term used to describe a certain kind of migrant in the field of migration studies; specifically, a group of foreign workers with common traits qualify for a particular visa category.

Workers who have acquired specific expertise via formal education or experience are considered skilled workers. The education level of a skilled worker may range from college and university graduates to technical college graduates. It’s also possible that a proficient worker picked up their knowledge on the job.

The goal of the Skilled stream of the Migration Program is to bring in immigrants who will strengthen the host country’s economy and fill jobs for which there is a shortage of local candidates. Compared to the general population, skilled migrants are far more likely to work, boosting the economy and creating more employment opportunities.

The Skilled stream contributes to regional development in several ways, including attracting investment and increasing spending within regions and delivering much-needed skills and labour that otherwise would not be available.
